Enjoy our final performances from our secondary musicians from the comfort of your own home! Programme, livestream link and admission donations below. Concert begins at 4:15 pm on June 17th.
Our Winter Performance Series will be next week on December 17th. This will be the culmination of many weeks’ worth of hard work, perseverance and dedication. The students now have the opportunity to show off all they have learned and be celebrated for their musical accomplishments this term!
This will not be a traditional “concert” per se – students will come in through the Band Room exterior door, one class at a time, perform during their timeslot, have it recorded, then leave through the front entrance. This will ensure no two classes will interact so that the “concert” is just as safe as our classes we do every day. I will send out a final polished “Concert” recording a few days after the performance.
The performance timeslots are as follows. Students should arrive to PMSS a few minutes prior to the start of their timeslot and enter the Band Room exterior door (at the back of PMSS). There, they should set up their instruments and warm-up. Then they will come to the MPR to perform. After their performance, they will pack up and leave through the front entrance.

Concert Uniform: now is a great time to ensure that you have all the aspects of your child’s uniform for their performance. Please don’t wait until it is too late if you are unable to afford new clothes – the music department has funds available to help you! Students not in uniform may be prohibited from performing.
- Black PMSS Music T-shirts (distributed later this week or early next week)
- Black DRESS pants (jeans or sweat pants are not suitable)
- Black DRESS socks
- Black DRESS shoes (runners, converse, etc are not acceptable)
- Black DRESS shirt (minimum ¾ length sleeves)
- Black DRESS pants
- Black DRESS shoes/socks
- Or something dressy that accomplishes the above objectives
As stated in our course outlines and music handbooks, performances also function as term exams – participation is essential. As well, we are a team, and EVERY player is needed for the performance.
This coming week, Mr Renaud will be circulating to elementary schools in Pitt Meadows to talk with grade 6/7 students about our program. We will also have our annual Elementary Band Registration/information Meeting on Wednesday October 7th, via Zoom. All interested parents are invited to attend! The link will be posted on our website Wednesday morning.
Here is the letter written by our SD42 Elementary Band Directors that details safety information as well as general information about the various elementary bands in our district this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Renaud with any questions.
All non-cohorted music ensembles at PMSS that are too large to fit in the band room will be taught in the Multipurpose Room (cafeteria/theatre) – this will provide us with TONS of space for physical distancing as required to make music safely.
The BC CDC considers band and choir classes to be SAFE activities (with protocols in place – as we must have protocols in place for all of our school classes in our “new normal”). The CDC also acknowledges that band and choir classes are good for students’ emotional health by providing them with a community of peers who work together as a team to collectively make art. More information is available on the CDC website for school settings (scroll down to activities): CLICK HERE.
ALSO there is a GREAT article published by the Globe and Mail which outlines how the CDC’s guidance for making music safely came to be throughout the summer. Parents/guardians and students can rest assured that a dedicated team of doctors, health officials, and educators have been working hard for months to ensure a safe return to making music. You can read the article by clicking on the photo below:
An assortment of PMSS elementary and secondary band students gathered together (while staying far apart) to perform for Pitt Meadows’ Canada Day Virtual Celebration. We were so grateful to have been approached by the city to be part of the festivities. Many thanks to the students that joined in! Enjoy the performance below 🙂
For those students who have done one year of Elementary Band and are going into grade 7 in the fall, now is the time to register for Advanced Elementary Band at PMSS. AEB is open to grade 7 students who have completed Beginner Elementary Band in grade 6 from the following elementary schools: Pitt Meadows Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Davie Jones Elementary, and Edith McDermott Elementary. Students at Hammond Elementary who have completed one year of elementary band at Westview Secondary are also welcome to register.
Classes take place in the Pitt Meadows Secondary Band Room TUESDAYS at 11:00am-12:00pm and FRIDAYS at 8:30am-9:30am.
The year will feature many exciting events and activities. We will: see a Vancouver Symphony Concert, do a performance tour of local elementary schools, have an overnight retreat at Camp Zajac, perform in 4 PMSS concerts, perform at the Vancouver Kiwanis Band Festival, and participate in the year-end BBQ.
Please fill out the form and mail it with a cheque made out to “Pitt Meadows Secondary” or “PMSS” to:

This week, we will be doing our Instrument Return at PMSS on Thursday June 18th. The schedule will be as follows:
Last names A-L – 3:00-4:00 pm
Last names M-Z – 4:00-5:00 pm
Anyone who was unable to make their scheduled time – 5:00-6:00 pm
I recommend considering showing up at some point during your time window rather than right at the beginning of the time slot, as you will have to line up outside, socially distanced (2 m away at all times). We ask that you bring your instrument to the back of the building where Mr Renaud will meet you at the Band Room exterior door. Mr Renaud will inspect the instrument, then, provided there is no damage, he will return your damage deposit.
If you cannot make it on June 18th, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to make alternate arrangements – please do not just drop your instrument at the school whenever, as this creates more work for our administrative staff and increases the amount of interaction they do with the public which is not recommended right now. Thank you for understanding.
Our Spring Concert is NEXT WEEK! The concert begins at 7 pm in the PMSS Multipurpose Room. Please read below for call times for the students. Admission will be by donation, and we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the food bank.
WEDNESDAY MARCH 11 – PMSS Spring Concert
Who: Secondary Concert Band, Secondary Concert Choir, Advanced Elementary Band, Beginner Elementary Band, student-led groups and solos/duets. (if you would like to add a song to the program, please email Mr Renaud ASAP)
SCHEDULE (please note: band classes run as usual this day):
Concert Set-Up: 2:45-3:45 pm – secondary students please meet in the band room. If everyone helps out, this should only take half an hour! We need to cart all percussion equipment, both chair racks full of 18 chairs, 2 stand racks, the choir risers, sound system, and the piano to the MPR.
Call time: ALL performers should meet in the band and choir rooms at 6:30 pm to warm-up.
Concert start time: 7 pm.
Per our handbook, all students are expected to stay for the duration of the concert. Each group deserves a big and enthusiastic audience to perform for and part of being a musician is supporting the musicians around you by being in their audience.
Students are expected to arrive at call time in UNIFORM.
SECONDARY STUDENTS: Concert Blacks: black dress shirt, black dress pants/leggings, black dress shoes, black dress socks, or something dressy that accomplishes the goal of those suggestions.
ELEMENTARY STUDENTS: PMSS Elementary Band T-Shirt, black DRESS pants, black DRESS socks, black DRESS shoes.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email or talk to Mr Renaud. The goal here is the show that as an ensemble we are unified, just as a sports team all wear the same uniform for a game. No t-shirts, jeans or running shoes, please!
**If your family is having financial difficulty and simply can’t afford a new pair of shoes or pants, please let us help. Don’t wait until the night of the concert and please don’t just send your student in the wrong clothes. The PMSS Music Dept has funds available to help out families in need.**
Students not in proper uniform may be prohibited from performing.
There will be NO potluck at this concert. Instead, our Music Parents Council has decided to offer a concession of pre-packaged snacks (chips, cookies, rice crispie squares, etc), as well as bottles of water and cups of coffee. All concession items will be $1.00 each.
This concert will feature a 50/50 Draw with tickets for cash purchase. Please bring those loonies and toonies so you can get in on the fun! Tickets will only be sold to people 19+ years of age.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Renaud. The students have been working extremely hard this term and we cannot wait to show you all we’ve been preparing! Please invite your family and friends to come and enjoy this fun night of music staged by our awesome student-musicians.
